School Council Badge

The School Council is a vital part of Holmemead School enabling pupils to have a voice and to understand that their opinions matter.

Pupils are elected by their classmates at the start of the school year after making a short speech tp their class outlining the reasons why they feel they would make a good class representative.

The School Council meets every month and is wholly student-run with teacher advice only as and when necessary. Governors are regularly invited to listen in and take part in meetings. In this way, the Council provides a basis for learning important life skills such as speaking and listening, teamwork, emotional lieracy, problem-solving, moral reasoning, self-esteem and self confidence.

This year has been extremely busy, tackling important issues such as helping to design the new school library, healthy eating at break time, future plans for the school lunchtime provision and Academy Status consultation.

Next year looks to be just as hectic as pupils are not backward in coming forward at Holmemead! Watch this space...
