JANA LogoJANA stands for Junior Assistant Network Administrator.

At Holmemead, we have a group of 15 pupils from years 7 and 8 who volunteer to assist the ICT Department. One of their responsibilities is to deliver any ICT equipment booked for use in lessons and make sure that it is set up and in working order. They are also responsible for running the ICT clubs at lunchtimes which are attended by other pupils.

The 15 pupils are divided into 5 different teams of 3. These 5 groups rotate around the days of the week on a 5 week rota so that no-one misses the beginning of the same lessons repeatedly. JANAs must arrive early at school on their duty day to set up the equipment before lessons begin. Pupils who were JANAs in Year 7 and remain JANAs in Year 8 are known as SANAs (Senior Assitant Network Administrators) and are responsible for organising their teams. The Alpha and Omega are chosen to assist staff as a first point of call if they have difficulties with the equipment and bookings should the Network Manager or Leader of ICTAC not be available.

Our JANAs have also helped at Prospective Parents' Evening and to celebrate the opening of the M.U.G.A. at our Space for Sports and Arts Center. Some pupils have been involved in taking pictures for this website and visiting other schools during visits by Holmemead to film the events. As well as this they have sometimes delivered the starts of lessons and are always available to help other pupils with ICT concerns. They can even organise themselves and the equipment on the days when our staff are on courses.

In return for their hard work and time, they are given special privileges and receive ICT colours. They are allowed to set their own wallpaper on the PC desktop and screensavers. They also have extra printing credit. Various other treats and marks of gratitude have been given to our JANAs to thank them for their work which makes ICT at Holmemead run much more smoothly.
